[dir. de VITO, Danny] [DAHL, Roald] KAZAN, Nicholas; SWICORD, Robin
Matilda
Culver City: N.p. [Jersey Films], 1995
110 pp, secured by two split pins to left edge. Stamped issue number ‘610088’ to each page. Approx. 30 pp. of stapled crew and contact lists on variegated paper stocks laid in. An unmarked, well-preserved copy.
Fourth draft screenplay, dated April 1995 to title page (pages dated 25 April 1995), of Danny de Vito’s faithful rendering of Roald Dahl’s classic children’s story, starring de Vito, Rhea Perlman and Pam Ferris. Although now somewhat eclipsed by Tim Minchin’s musical version (a worldwide stage success which was also filmed by Matthew Warchus in 2022) de Vito’s version was highly praised on release and remains a firm children’s favourite thirty years on, retaining all the delicious nastiness of Dahl’s original.
