"I’m The Whore Of Babylon And The World’s Biggest Bitch. But…You Have My Heart"

£750.00

‘I’m the whore of Babylon and the world’s biggest bitch, but you have my heart.”
[LOVE, Courtney] [BEAR, Huggy]
A provoking, personal and gossipy draft letter from the centre of the 1990s music scene.
N.p. [London]: N.D [1992-1994]

ALS signed “Courtney,” one page, both sides, 8.5 x 11, no date [1992-1994]. Handwritten draft letter to her friend, “Jo,” (Jo Johnson of Huggy Bear) in part (spelling retained): “This is a Secret Letter to you. I wonder if you ever got my first one. So…what do you think of FAME? pretty dumb huh!!!” Kurt wants to take you on tour. But he’s afraid to ask. He bets you’ll say no. Well? Are you thinking? Anti Grunge Mods from Brighton go arena hoppin’ in the USA?” “Blackwidow Goddesses be my secret girlfriend” Hole and Huggy Bear would share a stage (London 1993), which was performed to a strictly women-only crowd due to the sexism and assaults many female gig-goers would be subjected to in alternative venues. Love also states in the letter, “I hate the Olympians. Please never tell them that I write you desperate love letters.” – This is almost certainly a reference to Bikini Kill and its front woman Kathleen Hanna, who formed their group in Olympia, Seattle. Love had a long-standing feud with Hanna, who was at the forefront of establishing the Riot Grrrl genre. Huggy Bear would also go on to support Bikini Kill on their UK tour in 1993. Sadly, Huggy Bear’s support of Nirvana never came to fruition due to the death of Kurt Cobain in April 1994.

An important draft letter connecting so many figures within the defining genres of 90s rock music (Grunge and Riot Grrrl), accompanied by a letter of authentication of Love’s handwriting by PSA.
